Corning invented a product called Gorilla Glass in the 1960’s. It has been waiting all these years for it’s time to come. First quarter sales of the product surged 50 percent this year to about $150 million says, Jim Flaws, CFO of Corning. Corning is now working to expand the unvelievably strong glass to new markets.
Flaws stated,” We continue to make progress extending Gorilla Glass into new markets, including an exciting collaboration with Hyundai on a futuristic concept car. In addition, a major architectural firm announced Gorilla Glass is designed into a prototype prefab apartment unit. The firm exhibited Gorilla Glass just last week at an industry show in Seattle.”
Corning expects most of it’s future sales to come from TV’s and smartphones according to the folks at https://www.smartplanet.com/blog/smart-takes/corning-8217s-gorilla-glass-sales-surge-electronics-today-apartments-cars-tomorrow/15884.
