As the weather is slowly getting warmer, we’re all looking for a way to get outside of the house. And with summer on the horizon, it also means we’ll be seeing more fresh produce available. If you are looking for a good way to get out, while also purchasing your fruits and vegetables locally, then your best bet is to head over to your favorite farmer’s market.
But what if you don’t have a favorite? Well, today, we are taking a closer look at some of the farmer’s markets around the Seattle area. Remember to check out the weather and their websites for local updates before making any plans to visit.
Ballard Farmer’s Market
Sundays mornings are made for visiting Ballard Farmer’s Market, a Seattle’s Farmer’s Market Association neighborhood market. Opened in 2000, this market was the first to be a year-round neighborhood market. And it is completely worth the trip. All of the produce sold at the market is exclusively from Washington state farmers. A perfect spot for the locals to gather to get great produce from small farmers.
Whether you’re looking for some fresh mozzarella or some local honey, Ballard Farmer’s Market has it all. But you don’t want to miss out on the handmade pies or the gluten-free handcrafted artisan bread either. Stop by next Sunday from 10am to 3pm to check out all the great vendors. For a full list of attendees, check out the Ballard Farmer’s Market website.
University District Farmer’s Market
The University District Farmer’s Market is known as one of the best markets in the nation. All thanks to the markets’ continued focus on providing great food. In the market founded in 1993, there are spaces for both the larger year-round farms as well as the smaller farms that only attend for a few select weeks each year.
When you get there, you’ll find a huge variety of foods. If you’re looking for fresh fruits and veggies, you’ll be sure to find it. But along with those, you’ll also find, fresh seafood, foraged mushrooms, and delicious cheeses. This is a market you don’t want to miss. Open every Saturday from 9am to 2pm, this year-round market has over 60 vendors during peak season. Head on over to their website for more information about their vendors.
Pike Place Market
Of course, Pike Place Market makes the list of must-see farmer’s markets in Seattle. Founded in 1907, this is the city’s original market. While today it is a bustling tourist attraction that can get miserably crowded during the hot summer afternoons, this market is one you can’t miss.
The high stalls facing the street sell everything from fresh produce to flowers. And so much more. Don’t forget to head to the below-ground hallways for some amazing shops.
To help avoid the crowds, check out the market during the week and early mornings. Market hours are 9am to 6pm Monday through Saturday and 9am to 5pm on Sunday. And as always, check out their website for more information regarding vendors.
West Seattle Farmer’s Market
West Seattle Neighborhood Farmer’s Market is another year-round market that’s open every Sunday from 10am to 2pm. This market only has food products, meaning no craft booths. Which also means more room for a great selection of organic produce. Not to mention the amazing selection of wines, cheeses, and so much more.
Located in the retail center of West Seattle, this market has all your shopping needs at your fingertips. From Greek yogurt to fresh pasta, it’s guaranteed you’ll find what you’re looking for. Head on over to their website to find a full list of vendor options available.
Columbia City Farmer’s Market
One of the major draws of Columbia City Neighborhood Farmer’s Market is the lack of tourists. Held on Wednesday nights from 3pm to 7pm from early May to mid-October, it’s the perfect place to find many of the same vendors as the big weekend markets without the same crowds. The market is easy to navigate and filled with a welcoming atmosphere. Being situated next to Columbia Park makes this market great for a picnic-dinner from one of the many food vendors.
With approximately 40 Washington farmers and food vendors, you’ll find everything you need for an amazing meal. Whether you’re looking for fruits and veggie stands, baked goods, or even cheese and other dairy products, this market has them all. And we can’t forget the beautiful and reasonably prices flower bouquets the market offers too. Be sure to check out their website for a full list of attending vendors.
There are many more farmer’s market options around the Seattle area that we just couldn’t give recognition.
